One of the advantages of being a senior is the
opportunity to volunteer your services to assist a number of worthwhile
charitable organizations. The following charitable organizations need
your help:
Retired and Senior Volunteer
Program (RSVP): A non-profit
organization sponsored by Helping Hands Hawaii, that places
seniors age 55 or older into volunteer opportunities to facilitate the
delivery of human services throughout communities on the island. They
are a part of Corporation for National and Community Service (CNS). RSVP
volunteers on Oahu serve in over 80 nonprofit, public service agencies,
school and organizations. They
are located at 2100 North Nimitz Highway, Honolulu, Hawaii 96819.
536-6543.
Project Visitation:
This is a project of the State of Hawaii Family Court, which trains
volunteers and uses them to assist in transporting siblings from their
foster homes to locations where they can spend time together.
Volunteers, also known as "Angels," take the children to the
park, movies, out to eat, or to a place where the children can talk and
just be together. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to get
involved with helping Hawaii's abused and neglected children. It is
important for volunteers to have a car and be able to drive. Call
528-7048 to get involved or click here
to get more information from their website.
Passport in Time:
This is a federal program of voluntary work projects with the U.S.
Department of Agriculture Forrest Service. Volunteers are matched with
projects of historic preservation, conservation, restoration and
archaeology throughout the United States. This program provides an
excellent low cost vacation of learning and excitement in a safe and
economical environment. Check out the webpage at www.passportintime.com
or call (800) 281-9176 or write Passport in Time Clearing House, P.O.
